It was 4 in the evening. I was watching a comedy sketch on YouTube as I waited for my friend to call me. We go for a long walks together on saturdays, usually to the beach or up a hill nearby. We’d talk about recent happenings in our area and along the route, about the movies, about the recent news updates, and anything and everything that comes to mind. The week before that, we had gone to see the site allocated for a data center nearby. It took 20 mins get there. The site was covered on the boundaries with green mats so that people cannot see what’s happening inside. We walked along the wall, hoping to find a gap to peer inside. The site must have been huge because it took us 15 mins to just to get half way.

“Why do data centers need huge amounts of land? Why can’t they build something like a skyscraper? Felling all these trees doesn’t feel right.” My friend wonders out loud. “I don’t know man, maybe it’s just cheaper for them this way” “Yeah it’s just how it is, but we can’t keep cutting dow----”

I had looked at him. He froze in place, looking sharply towards the wall. I turned my head to look at it. The green mat had a tear, the wind was making the mat flap rapidly, I tried to see through the hole formed due to the tear.

Before I could make out what’s on the other side. He had suddenly pulled me back and said “It’s not just a datacenter, It’s going to be a country full of geniuses”
