Part 2: What do people of different countries eat on a typical day?
Join me as I research what Americans eat on a typical day. Day 5 of 30 day micro blogging challenge
Yesterday I have published Part 1 of this essay where I have talked about what I eat on a typical day. You can read it here: Part 1: What do people of different countries eat on a typical day?
So let’s start with Americans. From what I’ve seen on social media and the movies, if I were to guess, I’d say either cereal with milk, toasted bread, a sandwich, or a salad for breakfast. For me, burgers are an American invention, so probably something like that for lunch. But do people eat them on a typical day at home? not sure. I know from the movies that white people, specially those in USA, love grilling as a social activity, where they invite their friends & family over, so maybe grilled steak for dinner? but I don’t think they eat it everyday, maybe a few times a week, sure.
Let me check how wrong I am in my guesses. Also, I am surprised that I don’t know for sure what people in different regions of the world eat and that I haven’t tried to know more about it. It’s also feels weird to realize that I don’t know what my grandparents ate on a daily basis when they were my age. They didn’t have gas or electricity, so they probably cooked on heat produced with burning wood or coal. I wonder how the curries they were eating tasted.
Back from my tangent, here’s what I found from the search about the food on american plates.
Breakfast: Cereal with milk, Oats, Bacon (Pork) & eggs, Waffles, Pancakes, Bread, Bagels (kinda like buns)
Lunch: Salad, Soup, Sandwich, Noodles, Pasta, hot dog, Steamed Vegetables
Dinner: Pizza, Pasta, Noodles, Steak, meat balls
I have only included a few of the popular items but there are more varied dishes listed in the American cuisine wikipedia page. On a high level, most american dishes seem to be some combination of bread, chicken, pork, steak, cheese, and some vegetables.
Europeans probably eat similar to Americans, I’m more interested in what people in the African continent eat and how their food habits evolved over the years. Maybe it’s a topic for another time.
